"Syncing error" with self-hosted, starting in Desktop v2024.3.2

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Download and run release: Desktop v2024.3.2 (Bitwarden-Portable-2024.3.2.exe)
  2. Click "Logging in on"
  3. Click "self-hosted"
  4. Enter self-hosted server
  5. Click save icon
  6. Login successfully
  7. Notice no data is loaded from vault
  8. Click File > Sync vault
  9. Red error banner appears in top right with message "Syncing failed"

Expected Result

  • Data should be loaded from vault on first login
  • Data should load when running a manual sync

Actual Result

No data is loaded and "Syncing failed" message appears

Additional Context

  1. I first noticed this happening in a full windows 11 installation (non-portable) version Desktop v2024.4.1.
  2. So I did a complete uninstall and wiped local data and reinstalled, same issue.
  3. I started going through recent releases (portable versions) and logging in (wiping 'bitwarden-appdata' folder between each run).
  4. I found that the last working version was Desktop v2024.3.0 -- and then when changing to Desktop v2024.3.2, the problem appears.
  5. I am able to successfully sync in the iOS app as well as the Chrome browser extension. Only Windows Desktop client is failing to sync.

  • I understand that work is tracked outside of GitHub. A PR will be linked to this issue should one be opened to address it, but Bitwarden doesn't use fields like "assigned", "milestone", or "project" to track progress.

I have the same issue with the Windows desktop client version. I noticed it first in 2024.4.1 when trying to save a new entry.
Before this incident I edited the 2 factor authentication setting but I'm not sure if it has any impact.

Saving a new entry works and I can see it saved in the web vault but trying to synchronize manually to get all existing entries fails!

Same issue here. All my entries disapeared but when I log in into the server or using mobile client, all data is there.
Installed Desktop version 2024.3.2 and recovered all data.

Same issue here. Did a new install on Win 10 using Bitwarden-Installer-2024.4.1.exe. My browser extensions on the same PC all sync fine but that desktop client just kept saying "Syncing failed". I uninstalled the 2024.4.1 desktop client and installed the 2024.3.0 desktop client and it syncs fine.

@ekallevig this appears to be a duplicate of #8673. I'm closing this so that you can watch this issue for updates, as we are working on a resolution now.
