[Win] Fonts messed-up

For certain combinations of Windows OS version and graphics card manufacturer, the fonts in Ripple are all messed-up. They appear scrambled and almost resemble a foreign language. The problem goes away if hardware acceleration is turned off (e.g., via Ripple's config.ini after a shutdown of Ripple).
We've seen this on Windows XP with an NVIDIA graphics card. We believe that an update of the graphics card drivers would resolve the problem, but we prefer a solution that does not require the user to do so.
