MSI installer on Windows

We've been using a competitive product since forever, but we're not content with their recent licensing choices.
We'd love to push this out to all our users, and an MSI would make this much more available to Windows users and Windows-based enterprises. For now we'll push it using the exe-installer, but future upgrades with an msi-installer would be preferred.
Are there any special attributes that you would be looking for in an MSI package? For example, do you need to disable the desktop shortcut, skip installing translation files, have an option for the Windows Explorer integration? Put another way, are there things that make some MSI packages better than others?
The current switches you got with the exe-installer are all we would need. No desktop shortcut, install for all users, no translation files.
It's just fidgety to get an exe installer working for a lot of different machines in our current setup (SCCM) and an msi package would basically solve all our problems.
