[Accessibility] Community-Submitted Alt Text
Opened this issue · 1 comments
Describe the Feature
Currently, on Bluesky, alt text is primarily added by the original poster or through quote-posting by others. Approximately 15% of images on the platform include alt text, a figure that is woefully insufficient.
To enhance accessibility, I propose a system for user-submitted alt text. In this scenario, when a user encounters an image lacking alt text, they can manually add it. Upon submission, the OP account would receive a notification, prompting them to review the community contribution.
To mitigate potential misuse of this feature, only accounts in good standing would be eligible to submit alt text on others' images. Additionally, account holders could restrict this function to mutual followers or mutuals of mutuals.

Describe Alternatives
An alternative method is quote-posting an identical image with alt text, which can be cumbersome. Although Bluesky offers a toggle to prevent posting without alt text, it’s evident that many users do not utilize this feature enough.

Kinda depends on #659 IMO (interesting coincidence, that similarity in bug numbers!)
