I've downloaded and ran completelly fine, but when i log into steam (and big picture it) all the images aren't the full rectangle, instead they are only squares that occupy the center of the image.

Big Picture uses the older banner format which should be covered correctly.
What's the command you've run and how are the images in the folder ($steampath/userdata/$userid/config/grid), do you know from which source they are coming?
