Crashes when I type national character in url field

Description

When I open brave in Ubuntu and start write into url field and type any national character (for ex. vejdě) Brave crashes.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Brave 1.82.170 (Official Build) (64-bit) in Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS
  2. Start type any word with national character - for ex vejdě
  3. When you type ě Brave crashes

Thanks for reporting @berk76 - can you please visit brave://crashes and check there for crash reports?

If there is one showing and it's not sent, you might need to click Send now and restart the browser.

But once it's sent, you should see a field called: Uploaded Crash Report ID. If you can share that with me, I can help narrow this issue down.

We currently have two crashes:

  • #49249 (crash when virtual keyboard enabled)
  • #49272 (crash with certain letters)

I think it's the second one for you and we have a fix. I'll work on getting that uplifted. Some people reported as a work-around, they can copy/paste the value.

Hello, i'm facing exactly the same problem. Os : Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS | version : 1.82.170
When a I click on é, Brave craches.

It seems issue is now fixed after today update of Ubuntu.
