Accessibility block high and low contrast options mask PoodLL videos
Opened this issue · 4 comments
When using the accessibility block in both Moodle 3.9 and Moodle 4.0, the low- and high-contrast settings mask PoodLL videos - videos recorded using the "Record video" button are covered with the background color and are not visible. They are clickable, and audio is heard, but the video cannot be seen.

Hi Joseph, lets keep the conversation here. Can you post a screenshot of the problem? And is the player when it is visible the browsers native html5 video player , or is it the Video JS player (where the start button is big and in the video window and in the upper left corner )
Thanks, Justin. Background:
This video was recorded in Moodle version 4.0.2 (Build: 20220711) (2022041902). We have the same problem with Moodle 3.9, however.
The video was created inside a label using the TinyMCE button (
) labeled Video Recorder.
The text filter (PoodLL Recorder) version: 3.1.56 (Build 2022050300)
The TinyMCE Cloud PoddLL version: 1.0.5 (Build 2021122200) with Video Recorder as the default (One Two Three)
The videos playback in the Video JS player

Screenshot 1 shows the video partway through, with no changes to the Accessibility block, with Edit Mode off.
Screenshot 2 shows the video at the exact same place, with low contrast 2 mode (blue) activated on the Accessibility block, with Edit Mode off.
Screenshot 3 as above, with high contrast mode (black).
Screenshot 4 as above, with low contrast 1 mode (white).
Screenshot 5 is in high contrast mode, upon initial load of the page with Editing On.
Note that all screenshots occur with the Label in the "top" section in Grid format. If the label is placed in actual section, the video displays properly.
In Topics format, there are no problems.
In Collapsed Topics format, the same problems noted above result.
I believe both Collapsed Topics and Grid format are maintained by the same person (and Grid format does not have a plugin yet for Moodle 4.0, so we are using one developed for 3.11. The Collapsed Topics format has been updated for 4.0, though). I apologize for not testing multiple formats first. We did find this result in different themes (Boost, Classic, and Trema)
I installed the accessibility block and collapsed topics and tested this. I could reproduce the issue by uploading a video into Moodles standard "insert media" icon on the Atto toolbar without using Poodll. And it was displayed in VideoJS using Moodle'S multimedia filter.
So this issue is not related to Poodll. I think either Brickfield or Gareth Barnard (Collapsed Topics maintainer) need to look at it.
We are having the same issue; it would be great if Brickfield could weigh in.
