How to create atoms

I'm looking to insert an atom on text input, like in this example https://ember-twiddle.com/c41e57f02ed05fb966cbc984d0a23168?openFiles=components.my-editor-wrapper.js%2Ctemplates.components.my-editor-wrapper.hbs

But unfortunately, I cannot find a single example on how to create the atom in the first place.
