Drive waveshare 1.54 in display from esp32

Hey,
I'm aware that using this driver with an espressif board might be out of scope/ too much hassle for what it's worth.
However I'm wanting to drive a waveshare 1.54 display from an esp32 (no_std), but am unsure of how/if this is possible with the drivers provided here. I'm aware that I might need to rewrite the driver with the esp-hal in mind, but am struggling to find a good starting point. I'd be eager to contribute the results to this project, if that's desired.
I was that there is an ( #26 ) outlining how to add a extend the library to more displays, but I'm struggling to see what the minimum functions/API required are to get a display working.
