I wrote rack-auth-cookie for some internal projects at my workplace, and while anyone is more than welcome to use it for any purpose as far as I am concerned, I can't promise to maintain or support it.

I cannot be sure about the details of the stackoverflow page you linked, but I did write rack-auth-cookie to deal with a similar case in which I wanted to share a cookie between applications, where one application was on a subdomain of the other.
