If your primary use case is gaming, the 12 core monster is more than you'll need. An R7 3700X is more than enough. You get 3.6 GHz – 4.4GHz (turbo) in 8 cores / 16 threads and save $200.
Take that money and put it into a 2080 Super.

Definitely true. I had this CPU originally, to support a hybrid gaming/video conversion workload.
CPU was never even close to the bottleneck, except occasionally on a pegged single thread.
It is an impressive CPU, though.
