Google Group Subscription

I would like to join the Google group for Fakeweb however I am afraid that, due to company policies, I cannot get a Google account.
Would it be possible to enable email subscription to the group without a google account.
(I am specifically interested in the request body post as I have a need to test a SOAP api where, naturally, the request body content is pivotal)
So, I have a Google account that I use to sign in to the web interface (chrisgkampmeier@gmail.com), but Groups actually allows you to post from any address that you add. So I post and receive messages with another address, chris@kampers.net. You just have to sign in with a Google account to join, I think.
However, there's also an 'all-access' setting. So I just turned that on, as well as moderation for messages from non-members — Google Groups definitely has a spam problem, so I don't want to clog up the group again.
So, I think you should be able to post by emailing fakeweb-users@googlegroups.com. There's a bunch more info about the email-only interface here: http://groups.google.com/support
I'm going to close this for now, feel free to comment if you need more help.
