sidebar incompatible with jquery 3.1.1

after upgrading to jquery3 1 1 the menu is shown top left as normal links, when i click the button the page is pushed to the right but no menu showing up.
The Jquery migrate does not show any error in the log, so I have no idea what is cousing this beheavor.

It works fine in jQuery 3.4.0 and tested with the demo.html included with this repo.
