Unclear asterisks in "Women*" and "Frauen*"

It's been raised that the asterisk in our flyers this year:
Women*...Frauen* und nicht-binäre Menschen
...is somewhat unclear. Perhaps in the past the asterisk was used instead of "und nicht-binäre Menschen"? The person I spoke to is enthusiastic about the idea but was looking for an annotation for the asterisk. Perhaps we can revisit the design for next time.
It appears that we've dropped asterisk in the website.
@daveliepmann The background is, in German queer-feminist circles, this Frauen*
is commonly used as a sort of abbreviation to say : 'women are welcome, but you're also welcome if you don't subscribe to this men/women gender binary, and you're also welcome if you're not a cis woman'.
I think our main goal in using Frauen*
is to make it super clear that we're open to cis and trans women (+ nb people) , I don't know if it helps us do this. I think plainly stating 'women & non-binary people' works because we acknowledge that trans women are just women, no special asterisk or "identifies as" or something needed. I'm +1 for 'women & non-binary people' without *
.
OK, let's remove the asterisk in the English, and discuss removing it in the German at a meeting after the fall workshop. We'll have to do this in these places:
- posters
- flyers
- maybe the website?
Thanks.
