Option to backup your settings as an external .JSON file

Closed this issue · 2 comments

PROBLEM:
No existing mechanism exists for backing up modified preferences in the extension. This is particularly frustrating when reinstalling the extension on the same PC (or another system).

SOLUTION:
Add an option for all preferences to be backed up to an external .JSON file for easier management of user settings. Ideally, this should be incorporated in to a separate 'Save Settings' tab within the existing menu structure.

ALTERNATIVES:
Another possible mechanism is to point advanced users to the exact file that saves all modified preferences (that they can navigate too in their respective Firefox profiles folder) and manually copy that file for future use. However, this route would only apply to (and be used by) power users. The above idea would make it easier for all users to save and manage their preferred settings profile.

RELEVANCE / SCOPE:
This feature would benefit all users.

"SIDE EFFECTS":
None.

CONTEXT:
Most of the established Firefox extensions, do provide a way for the user to export modified keys in order to create a customized profile that can be easily exported.
