Could dymoprint be programmed to handle mode switching?

It's a bit unwieldy to set up 91-dymo-labelmanager-pnp.rules and dymo-labelmanager-pnp.conf. Is it technically possible and feasible to handle this within dymoprint itself? That would be nice.
