Multiple errors when executing tests using the amdgpu drivers

I am seeing multiple errors when running the JayBeams unit tests with the amdgpu drivers. I will probably need to break this down in multiple bugs, because some seem to be GPU-specific.

This was fixed by #125. At least to the degree that can fix this things, all tests pass consistently in my workstation (with the "amdgpu" driver), and on the travis builds.
