The specific case I have in mind when we create an new XDCR, new stats are introduced for this. I think with the current model there is no way to discover these new metrics once data collection has started.

It's actually possible, for instance active_task collector uses dynamic metadata updates when new tasks appear.

But it's not implemented in ns_server collector so far.
