text feature breaks above certain font sizes

when using the text feature, going above certain font sizes breaks the text rendering and gives an index out of bounds error, which sometimes underflows:

i cannot figure out why this happens. i have been unable to figure out why this happens for the past however many months i have been living this nightmare. they're out to get me.
