Cache dataset attributes

When developing catalogs, a time-consuming operation is to retrieve the metadata for the different datasets. With tens of thousands of datasets, it can take a while to go through all of them. I suggest including a caching mechanism with persistent storage to fetch the attributes more rapidly.
