This package is currently not available in MELPA, so it's more likely you downloaded a different package with the same name.

I'd suggest putting an advisory in the documentation as I was just bit by this too. It's not a stretch for a user to try this first thing if they don't want to manually build or use something like straight.el to target your repo.

For anyone coming from Doom Emacs, it's as simple as declaring (package! spotify :recipe (:repo "danielfm/spotify.el"))in your packages.el
