Only first message in a session is sent

Opened this issue · 4 comments

I keep having problems with messages that I send that do not arrive at the other end. It's hard to predict when exactly this happens, but a common experience is that in an ordinary private chat (sending and receiving messages in turn, not in a group), only the first message that I send actually arrives. The messages from the other person then all arrive correctly. The other person told me later that he saw in WhatsApp that I was typing, but no messages showed up on his phone.

Unfortunately, I cannot really reconstruct whether the other person was online at all the exact times when I sent my messages (but at least at some of them).

This has happened to me with various versions of the plugin, last time yesterday with the current devel branch 7621111. @davidgfnet, I'll send you the trace, although at first glance it seems to me that there isn't much useful information in there.

Anyone else having this problem?

Does it work if you disable sending ciphered messages (this is, force it to send plaintext messages)?
In theory is a ciphered message fails it should fallback to plaintext, but there might be a bug there!

I could uncheck the "Send ciphered messages" box if you think this would help. But as the error occurs only occasionally, it would probably take a while before I can say if this changed anything.

BTW, is there any way to see for me if my message arrived? At the moment I don't know at all how to figure this out, even when looking at the logs. The original app has these nice little check marks...

Anyway, sometimes received messages are dropped as well, and the "Send ciphered messages" setting probably doesn't have any influence on that? At the moment it's just harder for me to spot a pattern when this happens. The other people can see that I didn't get their messages as they don't get the check marks in their app.

Hey Andreas, the ticks are available. Are you using Linux? Then you need to build this other plugin and enable it in pidgin: https://github.com/davidgfnet/whatsapp-pidgin-plugin

Thanks, I'll try this out! Maybe this way I can at least see if the problem occurs again...
