zsh: command not found: $

I am a complete noob here looking for some help.
I open terminal and paste + enter "$ brew install switchaudio-osx" but it says zsh: command not found: $
Do I need to install something before this is able to work?

Do not include the $ character in the command. That is only there to indicate that the following command is meant for a shell (it represents a generic shell prompt).
