Initiating 'b'ackwards message scan is not working

As can be seen, something is horking the forward flag being passed. The previous message scan was initiated after another failed attempt at using 'b' to get into the message scan, and reflexively thwapping the spacebar. All relevant information should be near the bottom of that winder. The only way that a sub/room should not enter scan is if there are absolutely no messages to go back to; if that happens there should be some sort of message instead of just a fallthrough, preferably.
