Slide activation question

I'm thinking about purchasing this sensor and using this library to collect metrics via a Raspberry Pi Zero W. On some of the reviews I heard of needing to activate slides with a code. How does this library fare with this? Would I need to disconnect the sensor from the Raspberry Pi and plug it into a Windows machine to activate the new slide once a month?

I'm hoping to setup a set-it and forget-it system (aside from needing to physically change out the slides). What is your experience with this?
