Removing old Jami package in order to replace it with the Jami Snap

absullivan opened this issue · 1 comments

Hi, I would like to use the snap of Jami in order to make it easier to update. What is the best process to use to do this? Do I have to worry about losing my Ring/Jami account? Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have!

Hello,

[ apologies for the slow reply; I only recently saw this issue]

The best way would be to create a backup of your account by going to the Settings view, clicking 'Export account', and following through the steps to export the backup. This is so that in case of any potential issues with installing and running a new version, you will have a backup of your account regardless. Once you've created a backup, you can then try uninstalling the old version of Jami, installing a newer version, and starting the program. Even if there are any issues with the new version and the existing data for your account, you have the backup to fall back on if needed.

For any other questions, please see the Jami FAQ, and get in touch on the Jami forum, the public Jami mailing list, or the other contact methods listed on the Jami website.

Hope this helps.
