Custom scale algorithm for pictures

Hello,
There is scale method in the Transform object which handles the scaling of nodes.
Is it possible to improve scaling algorithm for pictures or make it somehow pluggable. Currently it is not the best possible quality for zoomed pictures.
Any ideas?
