Ceasing Support and Development of Docker Toolbox

nebuk89 opened this issue · 3 comments

Docker will be ceasing support and development of the Docker Toolbox project in 2020. We are archiving this to make it clearer what we are and are not supporting going forward. Most users should be able to migrate onto a version of Docker Desktop going forward.

Docker Toolbox is open source and as such you are free to continue branching/developing this yourself, though you may not release it under the name ‘Docker Toolbox’.

If you wish to comment on this please do so in our public roadmap item and let us know use cases you are worried about that you think will not be addressed.

I have merged the deprecation notice, as we have not had any maintainers for a year.

Is there an alternative supported easy to install package for windows that would bundle docker-client, docker-machine, and docker-compose?
Docker desktop doesn't come with compose and docker-machine. I mostly used the toolbox for managing remote hosts (via the generic (ssh based) driver).
Now I have to install Docker Desktop which installs docker-engine locally (which I don't use). then separately download and install compose and docker-machine.

What are the options for Enterprises which block Hyper-V? We can use VMware and VirtualBox but not Hyper-V.
