Should crouching generate paths?

I'm stuck between two options – having paths generate at a very, very slow rate, or not having them generate at all. Having paths generate slowly would make slightly more sense (the player is still putting the same "weight" on the ground), but it may slightly negatively impact gameplay (players would find it more difficult to sneak up on other players if the ground changing beneath them makes a noise, for example).
A good middle ground may be to have the blocks be replaced at a slow rate, but have it do so without making a sound (if possible).
