Option to download tar.gz files but not install them?

Any chance you could add a second very similar function which only downloads the tar.gz package files compatible with the specified version of R? And maybe generates a list of the order for install so there aren't dependency missing errors?
I came across your stackoverflow post when trying to figure out how to manually install a bunch of packages and their dependencies on an older version of R running on the HPC to which I have access.
