Is it possible to add consumable lamp oil?

Since this is a game with “darkness” in the title, it’s a safe bet that you will need a portable light source. But what threat is the darkness if the light source never burns out? It may be an interesting feature if the light source (in this example, an oil lantern) required a unit of fuel for every dark room you wish to illuminate.

  • Lamp oil may be purchased from a merchant and/or looted from the environment.
  • When entering a dark area, the player should be prompted to light the lantern.
  • The lantern should remain lit until the player enters a lit room, in which case it should automatically extinguish (and inform the player of this).
  • The player should be able to check how many units of oil they have with them at any time.
  • The amount of lamp oil you can carry may be limited, meaning that players will have to avoid running out of oil in a tough spot.

Examples of text prompts:

You have # units of lamp oil. Do you light the lantern?
You extinguish the lantern.
You have # units of lamp oil remaining.
You can not carry any more lamp oil.
