It looks like this git repository was created from scratch, possibly from a archive file of dale's old master branch (now deleted). The problem with this is that it is very difficult to see which changes have been made specifically for your own customisations.
The solution would be to create a fork of the main repository and then add your changes back in, ideally as one commit per feature. This would also make it much easier for you to keep your customised version up-to-date.
