Hi,

Apologies for using this as a contact channel (l hope it doesn't contravene community guidelines).

We would really like to use this web part. My first question is is it compatible with 365 SPO 2019. Secondly, unfortunately we have no developer expertise (we are a small UK College) and do not know how to install and deploy GitHub based web parts. Is there a "complete" version we can install ?

Again sorry for contacting you this way but any help would be deeply appreciated as this would be an excellent solution for us. I can provide contact details if helpful..

Hi @AJP21 -

Great to hear from you. As you point out, the SharePoint web parts on GitHub are never compiled into a .sppkg file, which is the app package you'd add to your tenant's app catalog to make it available to your users. To package them requires node.js installed, plus a terminal program, and then typing a few commands that are detailed in the Readme. For developers, that's a quick process since they already have those tools in place, put for non-developers it is a barrier.

I have made available the .sppkg for this web part to some local companies that wanted to deploy it but were in a similar situation (non-developers). I'm happy to post it somewhere for you as well. The way to reach me outside of GitHub is direct message on Twitter - @erikjbenke. Get in touch with me there and I can arrange that for you.

But I did want to also clarify what platform you're using. The web part will only work with SharePoint Online (and Teams) within Office 365/Microsoft 365. It's not compatible with any of the On-Prem versions of SharePoint - the reason for that is that even 2019 supports only a much older version of the SharePoint Framework which has some significant limitations.

Hi, Thank you so much for your help on this and taking the time to reply. I'd very much like to take you up on the offer of accessing the .sppkg. I do have some assistance from our Network Administrator who would be able to deploy it. In terms of our platform, we are using SPO 2019 365, so no on-premise provision. Very glad to help @AJP21 - sent you a link to download the .sppkg. Make sure to downloaded it as a single file as opposed to expanding it into separate files if given the option. A .sppkg package is basically a .zip file and needs to stay zipped that way when added to the tenant's app catalog.

Hi Erik, I can't thank you enough for this gesture and your contribution to the SharePoint community. I'd love to be able to develop my skills and create things like this!
