Etcher validation fails

Closed this issue · 1 comments

What Happened?

I'm trying to flash a USB stick with the latest ISO. elementaryos-6.1-stable.20211218-rc.iso. But Balena Etcher is giving the following error after it's validation step:

Attention
Something went wrong. If it is a compressed image, please check that the archive is not corrupted.

Cannot read property 'message' of null

I've verified the checksum as mentioned here:
https://elementary.io/docs/installation#verify-your-download

I've tried:

  • Retry
  • Downloading iso both as regular download and magnet
  • 2 different USB sticks

Balena Etcher is installed as app image

Normally I would have also tried imageburner, but that's not released for Odin yet.

Very similar, but old and unanswered stackexchange question:
https://elementaryos.stackexchange.com/questions/21077/unable-to-create-bootable-usb

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Balena Etcher
  2. Download elementaryos-6.1-stable.20211218-rc.iso
  3. Try flashing to USB Stick

Expected Behavior

Image is flashed successfully

OS Version

6.x (Odin)

Software Version

Older release (I have not run all updates)

Log Output

No response

Hardware Info

XPS 15 9550

I was just able to flash on a different computer, running OS X. Maybe this was caused in some way by my OS install. I will try again after a reinstall.
