Sound not working after changing output device to HDMI

OS: elementary OS 6.1 Jólnir
Hardware: Huawei Matebook 14

As mentioned in the title I am facing issues with getting sound to work after using a HDMI output

Steps to reproduce

  1. Connect laptop to HDMI output with speakers
  2. In Sound Settings change output device to HDMI output
  3. Unplug HDMI device
  4. Attempt to play audio out of speakers

Below is a screen shot from Sound Settings

As can be seen it appears that the audio output has correctly moved back to the systems speakers however no sound is produced either from running applications or the test speakers button. You can also see that the test speakers button does not show left and right speakers as it should
