NoGUI path doesn't call Init -- weird!

add another to the weird overlooked bugs category: the standard ra25 nogui path doesn't call Sim.Init(). this was causing an issue in the boa_test -- init does some extra config -- but in general that code is presumably important. probably this is why nogui and gui sometimes diverge.
update all examples etc to use the new boa template, which also gets rid of TheSim.
