Measure the performance overhead of type-erased layer

It would be interesting to see how much overhead the Session wrapper adds, compared to the typed protocol runner from test_utils.rs. But we need to make sure we factor out the broadcast consensus layer somehow (or include it in the performance tests for the typed layer).
