How to call firebase functions?

Hi - is there a way to call firebase functions from the theme. I see you didn't initialize it but I am getting errors even when trying to use firebase...is there a parent configuration I can grab? I'm just trying to to do a simple https request to my actual firebase functions but it's proving more difficult than I imagined.
