Mac OS: A lot of lag and unresponsiveness

Hello there,
on Mac OS, ESpeak causes VoiceOver to be very unresponsive, and things seem to get very laggy.

In fact, when you install ESpeak, and open VoiceOver utility, just going to the speech tab causes a crash for a few seconds for me.

Generally, VoiceOver also turns on a lot slower than without ESpeak.

I think this is happening because of too many languages. Could you add a possibility to select which languages should appear in VoiceOver, probably using some kind of a system with checkboxes in the app itself?

ESpeak supports over 100 languages, but obviously we as individuals don't need all of them, 2 or 3 is enough for most people at a given time.

Note that this doesn't need to change on iOS, such crashes don't exist there and VoiceOver can handle a large number of languages perfectly fine

Thank you..

I reproduce the issue, it's annoying lag.
I hope that it will be addressed soon.

Please try version 1.0(3) for macOS

Hm, this update seems completely broken for me.
In fact, selecting languages works, the selected languages appear in VoiceOver, but none of the variants speak any text.

Even if I try in the application itself, ESpeak speaks nothing at all.

Oh... I'm not sure what's going wrong, it works on my laptop. @paxcoder @beqabeqa473 for you?

Hm, do you tried to build a macOS version from source? It may conflict with TestFlight version, so the one thing that I may suggest is to clear Xcode DerivedData.

On my system (13.1 beta, M1 MacBook Air) the update works fine, and after selecting only the languages I'm interested in the issue is fixed. VO starts as quickly as it usually does.

Hello,
ok, found where the problem was.

I'm not sure why, but after installing the update, both volume and the pitch sliders in the app were at 0, so that's why all variants were silent.

I confirm that now everything works as expected and the issue reported here is fixed.
