[Information Request] Paper.js Alternatives

Hey, big fan of this app, was great for helping me when I first started out on animal crossing.

Not too sure where else I could ask this question, but I noticed on your github.io page that you mentioned "Made with Paper.js (which was probably not the best choice)". I'm looking into building a site that can similarly build layouts on a grid with a kind of drag & drop functionality and was wondering if you had looked into alternatives to Paper.js or had any feedback you could give as to why it was not the best choice? I'm new to working with canvas and would appreciate any advice you could give.
