The CRD apiextensions.k8s.io/v1beta1 will no longer be supported in k8s 1.22. The supported api, apiextensions.k8s.io/v1 has been available since k8s 1.16.
The adoption of 1.22 by some of the major cloud vendors is eminent or in progress:
- In the GKE Regular Channel, 1.22 will be available in December - https://cloud.google.com/kubernetes-engine/docs/release-schedule
- For Azure, the AKS GA for 1.22 is this month - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/aks/supported-kubernetes-versions?tabs=azure-cli

Never mind - just checked the latest build and find that is supported after all.
