Howto clone a meta

I wish to create my new meta i.e. meta-noamc and base it on meta-portwell
I tried to do this and I find my self ending up in total copy of meta-portwell.

I wish to have an identical clone and then add my layers which differentiate my meta from the meta-portwell.

How can I achieve this with as much code reuse from the original meta?
