Setting to disable sidebar icons for open files

Closed this issue · 4 comments

The open files always show the default file icons. If they would adjust icons to the filetype it would be fine, but I suspect that ST simply does not support this. Sounds like an issue for SublimeText/Issues maybe?

Anyway, I currently don't see any use of being able to see these icons for open views and would like to disable them.

I personally always found the empty space odd. The sidebar folders all below are flush against the edge, but the open files leave a gap. With that said, I don't mind making that optional. Are you adverse to the colorized file icon for a dirty file? Or are you completely against the idea of file icons all together? Originally, I had the theme have no icon and show a dot for dirty files. Please weigh in with some more specifics of your desire so I can think about what I actually will implement.

I actually forgot about the dirty file indicator (I've just installed your theme and played around a bit). That would have to be displayed differently of course. Afaik Nil does the same thing it does for tabs in the sidebar, which is what I'd try here too.

The margin between the icons and the tab name are too narrow imo. I prefer there to be nothing but the close icon on hover. That said, I also don't need two icons indicating the expanded-or-collapsed state of a folder in the sidebar but I think that could be a restriction by ST. I'm perfectly fine with the arrows since they are easier to distinguish than these folder icons and very well different enough from the file icons.

I will look into something. Like I said, the file icons for open files is a new thing, but I can make it optional.

I go back and forth on this one. Originally I removed the "disclosure" icons (the arrow icons), but later I added them back. I get that it is redundant. I was thinking of making them more subdued plus/minus icons, but I may remove them completely. I will play around. The arrows were really just a place holder.

Both are now optional. Folder Expand icons are now subdued as well.
