Feature: Remove the folder arrow in the columns layout

What feature or improvement do you think would benefit Files?

simply remove the ">", it's not doing anything.

This only works as long as the folder uses a standard icon, the user can choose any icon for these.

It's fine for someone to use an icon other than the classic folder icon.
But if they use an icon for folders that's indistinguishable from files... that's their psychologist's problem.

I wont comment on the icon choices of others lol. But the Chevron symbol is recognisable as opening another level of thing, be it menus and drop downs, or navigation items.

So that is why we indicate a difference in function between files and folders, and don't just rely on icons to indicate intent.

The chevron is an important indicator that it opens the folder in a new column.

Well, should be nice to have an option:

  • show chevron for dummies
  • hide chevron fo who already knows that the icon folder indicates a folder that obviously can be opened in a sublevel

The arrow icon does more than indicate that a folder will open, it also indicates that the folder will open in a new column. Without the arrows, it looks very similar to the List View layout, but with different behavior. I fully understand the use case, but I still have some reservations.
