Support of Multiple Selects - A,B,C is imported "as is"

I have an attribute of the type Multiple Select, and an Import file with a column "A,B,C"
I do the import via backend. fastsimpleimport is not installed, only extendedimport2
Multiple value separator is set to ","
Still the value is not split into multiple values but added as one value with those attributes.

Are multiple selects with auto-attribute creation supposed to be supported already?

With a field separator like "|" it seems to work?! Probably it's a glitch in Magento standard importer?

maybe I am just wrong about the assumption that the multiple value separator on the import page is what I think it is?
