Fix problematic sync combinations

For most combinations of file formats, everything works as expected.
However, if the target file is an XML or YAML and the source file is something different, then things are messed up.
Details will follow.

Potential bugfix: Remove caching of tree structures for xml or yaml targets.
Note that this bug does not show up if both source and target are xml or yaml.
