Unable to see chart legends

I am using the following command and have a black background (and I imagine the author text is black, as well). I have tried modifying the colours in the script, but nothing seems to be working.

python gitchart.py authors "Authors" ../../COMPANY/repo/ image.svg

I get a beautiful pie chart and legend, but no definition or relation of the colours to what they actually mean.

It seems to have been a problem with the program which I was using to open the SVG. Opening it in a browser (Google Chrome) has given me a chance to see the legend as well as interact with hovers.
