Just in case you want to evaluate an alternative to a free-form python script for building: http://gittup.org/tup/
It allows to use a DSL with fast changes-detection and resolving.
Switching something that already works without actual major advantages is not really a professional software-dev thing to do, but nobody said we are professionals… xD
