@stevage that is great news. Was there an announcement? If they support the Content-Range header then I'll really jump up and down with joy!

Not AFAIK - it just sort of quietly happened. I had a similar issue and had to resort to RawGit for a while as well.
Actually now that I remember, RawGit is still a bit more convenient than using the Github API, as you don't need API keys or special HTTP headers.
