compare to Huet, verbs, future tense

Opened this issue · 4 comments

This issue summarizes differences and similarities noticed in the comparison of verb conjugations; the methodology is described in the readme for huetcompare/verbs-tp-fut.

root comparison

huet_stems_fut.txt summarizes the roots that appear in future conjugation forms in the SL_roots.xml file from Huet. For a given root, future conjugations may appear in either the Parasamaipada or Atmanepada form (or both), and this pada information is also present in the stem file.

pysan_stems_fut.txt summarizes the roots and padas that appear in the
dcpforms-MW-verb.txt of the pysan system.

The two lists of roots and padas are compared in
compare_stems_fut.txt.

This comparison is organized into categories:

  • 353 cases of roots which appear in both sources, and with the same pada data
  • 97 cases of roots that appear in both sources, but with Huet showing only
one pada and pysan showing both padas
  • 75 cases of roots that appear in both sources, but with Huet showing both
padas and pysan showing only one pada
  • 3 cases of roots that appear in both sources, with a different pada
  • 1086 cases of roots which appear only in the pysan source
  • 203 cases of roots which appear only in the Huet source (Many of these roots
are identified, in their present tense conjugations, as denominatives.)

conjugation table comparison

huet_conj_tables_fut.txt contains 1103 future tense conjugation tables derived from Huet's SL_roots.xml.

Each of these appears on one line of the file.

For each of these Huet computations, a comparable computation from the pysan
system was prepared, taking into account the class-pada information used by pysan future tense computations. The result is
pysan_conj_tables_fut.txt.

compare_conj_tables_fut.txt summarizes the similarities and differences in the corresponding conjugations from the two files just mentioned.
Some statistics resulting from the comparison:

  • 517 (47% of the 1103) future conjugations are identical in the two systems.
  • 385 (35%) of the Huet conjugations have no comparable pysan conjugation.
  • 201 (18%) of the remaining conjugations differ in one or more details.
    • Some differences are due to differences in i-insertion. For instance, in
the future Parasmaipada for root akz, Huet has two forms (with and without
i-insertion), while pysan has only the i-insertion form.
    • Other examples show a difference other than i-insertion in the future
stem. For instance, 3s (huet) aNgizyati != aNgayizyati (pysan).

This completes the preliminary observations on differences in the future tense conjugations.

  • Some differences are due to differences in i-insertion

Can I have list of such, please, @funderburkjim ?
